North American Green uses a dispersal and sewing process in manufacturing its rolled erosion control products.
Raw fibers (straw, straw/coconut, coconut or polypropylene) are fed into a distribution cell located on the matting machine. The fiber is then pulled out of the bottom of the cell by needles affixed to a rotating cylinder that randomly disperses the fibers on top of a high performance netting (polypropylene or woven jute), which is then pulled through on a conveyor belt. The polypropylene netting is produced at the Company's Morrow, Georgia (USA) manufacturing site.
At the end of the conveyor, another netting (and additional crimped netting for the Vmax³® Composite Turf Reinforcement Mats) is laid over the top of the random fibers and pulled through a needle bar which stitches the nettings and fibers together with thread (polypropylene or cotton).
Once stitched, the finished erosion control blanket is pulled to the end of the production line, rolled up, and packaged in color-coded, perforated plastic bags or stretchwrap.
Certain proprietary additions have been incorporated into the Company's manufacturing equipment including the sewing section and other components of its German-manufactured production lines. The proprietary modifications have improved production capabilities, improved material usage control, decreased machine conversion times, improved quality control, and enabled the application of the Company's patented DOT System.
The process technology described above is practiced by the Company at its Evansville, Indiana, manufacturing facility. The product families produced with these procedures include:
Short-Term Degradable Erosion Control Blankets consist of 100% straw fiber stitched between photodegradable polypropylene nettings. These products are designed for immediate erosion protection and vegetation establishment on slopes, channels, and shorelines where conventional loose and hydraulically applied mulches often fail.
Extended-Term/Long-Term Degradable Erosion Control Blankets consist of straw, straw/coconut, coconut or polypropylene fiber stitched between two polypropylene nettings. These products are designed for immediate to long-term erosion protection and vegetation establishment on severe slopes, channels and shorelines. These products provide a higher degree of erosion protection, durability and longevity than the short-term single and double net erosion control blankets.
BioNet® 100% Biodegradable Erosion Control Blankets consist of straw, straw/coconut matrix or coconut fibers stitched into or between 100% biodegradable woven jute nettings.
Vmax³® Composite Reinforcement Series (C-TRMs) consist of straw, straw/coconut, coconut or polypropylene fibers incorporated into a permanent three-dimensional reinforcement structure. The Vmax³ products are designed to provide varying levels of immediate to long-term erosion control as well as permanent vegetation establishment.
